Filmen havde blandt andet Julie Andrews og Christopher Plummer på rollelisten som Maria og Captain. Filmen har vundet fem Academy Awards - heriblandt for bedste film og for bedste soundtrack.

Albummet indeholder blandt andet sangene "Edelweiss", "My Favorite Things", "Do-Re-Mi", "Sixteen Going on Seventeen" og "The Sound of Music".
