Sanzo Wada (1883–1967) was a renowned color expert who founded the Japan Standard Color Association in 1927, now known as the Japan Color Research Institute. Besides his research, Wada was a celebrated artist, fashion designer, and stage and film art director. His distinguished career earned him the 1954 Academy Award for Best Costume Design for "Gate of Hell" and recognition as a Person of Cultural Merit by the Japanese government in 1958.
