This guidebook brings together the Camino Sanabres and Camino Invierno, two historic routes that remain largely off the beaten track despite their significance. While each route offers a distinct camino experience, they join together at A Laxe for the concluding stages of the pilgrimage.

Both routes meet the minimum distance required for pilgrims to receive the Compostela certificate. However, the main aim of this guide is to present alternatives to the crowded paths through Sarria and Tui, which see over 80% of all pilgrims heading to Santiago. In contrast, the Camino Invierno currently attracts less than 1% of pilgrims.

The Camino Sanabres connects with the Via de la Plata, and this guide focuses on the last five stages starting from Ourense. Known for its rich Roman heritage and still-functioning thermal baths, Ourense is easily accessible thanks to excellent rail and road connections, making it an ideal starting point for pilgrims.
