Bertil Vallien is celebrated as one of the foremost artists working with glass today. His impressive career spans more than 60 years, and his work is showcased in prestigious institutions such as the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.

In "Atlas," readers are invited to explore Vallien’s world through his personal reflections, accompanied by a rich array of art glass images, sketches, and recent photographs taken in his studio and cabin. This collection reveals the demanding and intricate process behind creating his extraordinary glass sculptures, where expert craftsmanship meets artistic vision.

Vallien draws inspiration from diverse sources, including the story of Karolina, a girl who slept for 32 years, and his intriguing black series titled Desert Snow. His journey as an artist began with ceramics and evolved into advanced sand casting techniques in glass-a method he has refined over decades to enable the creation of larger pieces. Among his remarkable works is Passage, the largest glass boat in the world.

"Atlas" is an exceptional 400-page volume, featuring graphic design and concept by Peer Eriksson. The book includes photographs not only by Peer but also by other photographers Vallien collaborates with for catalogues and exhibitions.

Reflecting on the project, Bertil Vallien shares, "This book is the only one of all my books where I have actually written the texts myself. It was an idea from Peer Eriksson that felt both exciting and a bit daunting when we first discussed the approach to the book."
