The lifespan of a coin stretches far beyond its initial use, with its time as currency being just a small chapter in the ongoing recycling of metal. This study zeroes in on the final phase of the Roman coin’s story-its arrival on Bornholm, its usage there, and how it ended up buried and later found in the ground.
Coins reveal the connections between people, carried from one place to another for specific reasons. When objects move between cultures, they gain new significance. The Roman denarius, originally designed for use in a monetary system, took on very different meanings once it left its native Roman context and entered the Danish Iron Age world.
