Beskrivelse

Antony Beevor delves into the brutal Russian Civil War that erupted after the fall of the Tsarist regime between 1917 and 1921. This fierce conflict shaped the course of modern history through its intense clashes and political upheaval.

An in-depth exploration of the Russian Civil War and its global impact.

Following the collapse of the Tsarist empire, Russia was engulfed in a savage civil war that many consider one of the most significant events of the modern age. The divided White forces-comprising moderate socialists and staunch monarchists-were no match for the determined Communist dictatorship led by Lenin and Trotsky's Red Army.

The conflict was marked by escalating terror and brutality, revealing the darkest sides of human cruelty against men, women, and children alike. What began as a civil war soon turned into a worldwide struggle, with Britain’s Churchill sending weapons and troops from the British Empire. Meanwhile, the United States, France, Italy, Japan, Poland, and Czechoslovakia all played their own roles in this proxy war.

Drawing on the latest research and archival discoveries, Antony Beevor presents a vivid and comprehensive narrative. The story unfolds through the perspectives of a diverse cast-from the working-class people in Petrograd’s streets to cavalry officers on the front lines and a woman doctor tending to the wounded in makeshift hospitals.

This gripping account brings to life the complexity and human experience of one of history’s most turbulent periods.
