The GR20 trek is a challenging north-to-south journey across Corsica’s rugged mountains, known as one of Europe’s toughest long-distance routes. Covering around 190km, this trek typically takes about two weeks to complete, with options for both high and low-level paths in its 16 stages.

This guidebook offers detailed step-by-step descriptions for each stage of the GR20, supported by 1:50,000 scale maps and practical info on ascent, descent, terrain, and the availability of food, water, and accommodation or shelter. While it’s possible to stay indoors every night, many hikers choose to camp along the way.

The route demands experienced walkers due to steep, hands-on-rock sections that require sure footing and a good head for heights. It starts in the scenic northwest town of Calinzana and winds southeast across the island, finishing near Conca on the eastern coast, just north of Porto Vecchio.

The trek showcases Corsica’s stunning variety of landscapes-from bare rock and sheer cliffs to black sand beaches, alpine meadows, dense maquis, and forested areas. There are chances to explore traditional mountain villages and towns, offering a glimpse into the island’s rich culture and history.

Additional highlights include detours to nearby peaks such as Monte Cinto, the highest point on the island. The guide also provides useful advice on path conditions, essentials to bring, and how to get to and around Corsica.
