The story begins with the legend of the Sisters of Skara-four great stones that once stood on a remote Scottish headland. According to lore, these stones were raised by a grieving father to guide his abducted daughters back home. A curse was cast on anyone who dared to topple the stones: their family would be scattered far and wide, never to find their way back.

In 1931, businessman Charles Blackmore takes down the stones, and soon after, misfortune strikes-he loses his wealth, his wife dies, and his four daughters are torn apart. Each daughter holds onto a ring inherited from their mother, a symbol of hope for a future reunion.

Iris, the eldest, is the first to leave. She travels to Ceylon in search of a long-lost uncle who might help keep the family united. Her journey leads her from the exotic landscapes of Ceylon to the vast Australian outback, but will it bring her back home?

In the present day, Roz moves to London from Australia, carrying only one treasured item: an old ring that belonged to her mother. Feeling lost, her life takes a turn when she discovers a painting of ancient standing stones that sparks a strange connection to her ring. As Roz digs into the painting’s history, she begins to unravel Iris’s story and, in doing so, uncovers her own family’s past.
