Akin

Beskrivelse

Akin is a touching story about a retired professor and his great-nephew, as they embark on a journey to the French Riviera that unravels family secrets and explores the bonds between them.

A heartfelt exploration of family ties, love, and uncovering hidden pasts.

Emma Donoghue, bestselling author of Room, returns with her first contemporary novel since that hit, delivering a brilliant story filled with love, loss, and family connections. Noah, a retired professor from New York, is about to make his first trip back to Nice since childhood when he receives an unexpected call from a social worker. She’s seeking a temporary home for Michael, his eleven-year-old great-nephew, whom Noah has never met.

Reluctantly, Noah agrees to take Michael along to France. The pair, struggling with jet lag and culture shock, clash over everything from steak haché to screen time, making the trip seem doomed from the start. Yet, as Michael’s tech-savviness and keen observations help Noah uncover unsettling truths about their family’s wartime past, they both begin to understand the lengths people have gone to protect their loved ones across generations.

With the same emotional depth and tenderness that made Room a bestseller, Akin is a funny, moving story about an old man and a boy who confront their painful history and begin to create a new chapter together.
