Ariadne

Beskrivelse

Ariadne offers a captivating retelling of the classic Greek myth about Theseus and the Minotaur, bringing a fresh perspective to a well-known story. This novel shines a light on the emotions and motivations of Ariadne, a princess caught between loyalty and love.

A powerful reimagining that centers on Ariadne's voice and experience amid gods and men driven by vengeance and self-interest.

As the daughter of King Minos and princess of Crete, Ariadne grows up with the haunting presence of the Minotaur lurking beneath the palace in the Labyrinth. This monstrous creature, her own brother and her father’s greatest shame, demands a yearly sacrifice. When Theseus, the Prince of Athens, arrives as one such offering, Ariadne finds herself falling deeply in love with him.

But aiding Theseus in killing the Minotaur means turning her back on her family and homeland, a dangerous choice in a world ruled by unpredictable gods who can be as cruel as the men around her. Women like Ariadne are often mere pawns in the games of powerful men, and her decision could either lead to her happiness or her downfall.

Ariadne gives voice to the women often overlooked in ancient myths, revealing their strength and resilience against the wrath of capricious gods. With lyrical prose and immersive storytelling, Jennifer Saint skillfully retells this timeless myth, offering a fresh take that fans of Circe, A Song of Achilles, and The Silence of the Girls will appreciate.
