The Route des Grandes Alpes (RdGA) is a dream come true for cyclists who love hills and history. Stretching from Lac Leman to the Mediterranean coast in Nice, it covers around 720km through some of the most breathtaking Alpine landscapes. The route is broken down into 14 stages, which you can complete in 7 to 14 days depending on your pace and how you want to tackle the 17,000 meters of climbing.

To keep your trip flexible, six alternative route variants are offered, so you won’t have to worry if a pass is closed or if you need to adjust your itinerary.

Each stage and variant comes with clear, straightforward route descriptions, detailed 1:150,000 scale maps, and useful gradient profiles to help you prepare for every climb.

Beyond navigation, the book provides practical tips on everything from choosing the right bike, including options for eBikes, to nutrition while riding, as well as advice on planning logistics and finding accommodation.

The RdGA showcases 17 major Alpine passes, including legendary climbs like the Col de l'Iseran, the highest paved pass in the Alps; the Col du Galibier, a favourite of Tour de France founder Henri Desgrange; and the iconic Col d'Izoard, forever linked to cycling greats Fausto Coppi and Louison Bobet.

Along the way, you’ll ride through some of France’s most stunning national parks, such as Vanoise, Ecrins, and Mercantour, making this route not just a cycling challenge but also a spectacular journey through nature.
