Beskrivelse
Anne Frank, a thirteen-year-old girl, went into hiding with her family in an Amsterdam warehouse during the Nazi occupation. Her diary captures the challenges of living in confinement alongside her personal thoughts and growth until their tragic betrayal in 1944.
A moving firsthand account of life in hiding during World War II.
In July 1942, Anne Frank and her family escaped the dangers of Nazi-occupied Europe by hiding in a secret annex attached to an Amsterdam warehouse. Over the course of two years, Anne’s diary vividly reveals the daily struggles of cramped living conditions as well as her innermost feelings, hopes, and experiences as she matures.
Anne received her diary on her 13th birthday and began documenting her life immediately. The family went into hiding shortly after her sister Margot was summoned by the SS. With the help of trusted friends and employees, they managed to stay concealed until August 1944, when they were ultimately betrayed.
Anne was born in Frankfurt, Germany, in 1929 and moved to the Netherlands with her family in 1933 to escape the increasing persecution of Jews under Hitler’s regime. She was a lively, bright girl attending Montessori school alongside her sister Margot. After the Nazi invasion of the Netherlands in 1940, her father prepared the secret annex where they would hide.
Tragically, Anne and her sister Margot both died in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in early 1945, just weeks before the camp was liberated by British forces.
