Denmark is under German occupation, and the country’s official cooperation with the enemy leaves many Danes frustrated and disconnected. As a grassroots revolt spreads across the nation, lawlessness and sabotage erupt by August 1943.

In the town of Odense, the Niemann family owns a successful fashion business that trades with Germany. When Maia Niemann, 17, is found to have a secret crush on a German officer, she suddenly becomes the target of patriotic vigilantes who hunt down collaborators and women known as ‘terrain mattresses’, those who befriend the Germans.

Forced to flee Odense, Maia moves to Copenhagen to live with her Aunt Mille, hoping to chase her dream of becoming a top fashion designer. But her aunt hides her own secrets, including involvement in the resistance movement.

As summer heats up in Copenhagen, Maia faces tough choices that will change her life forever, caught between love, family, and the fight for freedom.
