Horror Vacui showcases a fresh collection from the renowned ceramic artist Morten Løbner Espersen. This body of work was also featured in his 2012 solo exhibition at Trapholt Art Museum, where four distinct series were brought together in a powerful display.

Horror Vacui, meaning the fear of empty space, originally referred to a style seen on classical Greek vases dating back to around 1000 B.C., characterized by densely packed, intricate decorations covering the entire surface. Morten Løbner Espersen’s latest series draws inspiration from these ancient shapes, marking a departure from the strict geometric patterns that defined his earlier works.
In this new collection, his striking glazes interact dynamically with the clay, creating an expressive dialogue that breathes life into the pieces. The exhibition at Trapholt Art Museum brought together four series-vessels, cylinders, glazed clay tablets, and drawings-forming a monumental presentation that invites viewers to experience this artistic evolution.
