I'm Glad My Mom Died

Beskrivelse

Jennette McCurdy’s memoir is a raw and witty look at her life as a child star, grappling with eating disorders, addiction, and a difficult relationship with her controlling mother. From her early auditions to her rise on Nickelodeon, Jennette shares her journey of reclaiming her life.

A candid and darkly humorous memoir about overcoming a toxic childhood and finding independence.

Jennette McCurdy was just six when she first auditioned for acting, driven by her mother’s dream of stardom. To please her mother, Jennette endured strict "calorie restrictions," weighing herself multiple times daily and facing constant criticism about her appearance. Her mother controlled every aspect of her life, from makeovers to sharing her private diaries and finances, even bathing her until she was sixteen.

In I'm Glad My Mom Died, Jennette opens up about these experiences with brutal honesty, especially what happened when she finally landed a role on Nickelodeon’s iCarly. Despite her mother’s excitement and close ties with the media, Jennette struggled with anxiety, shame, and self-hatred. These feelings led to eating disorders, addiction, and toxic relationships.

Her challenges intensified after her mother’s death from cancer, shortly after Jennette starred in the iCarly spin-off Sam & Cat alongside Ariana Grande. Eventually, Jennette found therapy and quit acting, beginning a path toward healing and self-discovery. This memoir is a powerful and inspiring account of resilience, independence, and the simple joy of taking control of your own life.
