Beskrivelse
Less Than Zero is Bret Easton Ellis's debut novel, capturing the dark and hedonistic lifestyle of Los Angeles youth in the mid-1980s. The story follows Clay, an eighteen-year-old returning home for Christmas, as he navigates a world of wild parties, heavy drinking, and detached relationships.
A raw and unfiltered coming-of-age tale set against the backdrop of 1980s Los Angeles excess.
Written when Ellis was just twenty-one, Less Than Zero immediately made waves for its stark and unsettling portrayal of a generation lost in excess. The novel dives deep into the relentless partying in shabby bars and glamorous nightclubs, drug-fueled escapades, and emotionally detached sexual encounters that define Clay’s world.
Through Clay’s eyes, the story offers a fierce exploration of youth caught in moral decay, showing the harsh consequences without passing judgment. This debut work has become a cult classic, capturing the spirit of its era while continuing to resonate with readers worldwide.
