Beskrivelse

Networking explores the collaborative connections between creators and their audiences, highlighting how technology shapes artistic communities. This book traces the history of Italy’s artistic networking scene over the past two decades, focusing on media and art projects that foster shared creativity and awareness.

An insightful look at the evolution of Italy’s artistic networks and hacker culture.

Networking delves into how relationships between publishers and readers, as well as artists and audiences, function on equal footing through the creation of interconnected networks. It offers a pioneering overview of Italy’s artistic networking history by examining media and art initiatives from the last twenty years that have embraced technologies-from video to computers-to build Italian hacker communities.

The Italian network champions critical information shared via independent and collective projects, with freedom of expression at its core. Over the past two decades, Italy has developed a broad national network of individuals united by political, cultural, and artistic ideals, fueled by alternative uses of the Internet.

This book charts the rise of Italian hacktivism and net culture from the 1980s to the present day. It reflects on the shifting role of artists and authors who transform into networkers, working within collective systems and reconnecting with Neoavant-garde movements of the 1960s, such as Fluxus, as well as Mail Art, Neoism, and the Luther Blissett phenomenon.

The journey begins with BBSes-alternative web platforms that spread across Italy in the 1980s before the Internet was widely available-and continues through Hackmeetings, Telestreet, and various networking art projects by artists including 0100101110101101.ORG, [epidemiC], Jaromil, Giacomo Verde, Giovanotti Mondani Meccanici, Correnti Magnetiche, Candida TV, Tommaso Tozzi, Federico Bucalossi, Massimo Contrasto, Mariano Equizzi, Pigreca, Molleindustria, Guerriglia Marketing, Sexyshock, Phag Off, and many others.
