The book stands out as the only English-language work authored by a former patrol member and is enhanced with rich illustrations that bring the story to life. Beyond his service, Mikkelsen has returned to Greenland multiple times, spending a total of ten years living there. He is a respected author of several Greenland-related books and co-founder and director of the North-East Greenlandic Company Nanok. In 2021, he made history as the first non-British president of the English Arctic Club.
