In 1914, Karen Blixen moved to Kenya with her husband to oversee a coffee farm. She quickly fell in love with the landscape and spent some of her happiest years there, despite the eventual failure of the plantation.
When the farm could no longer continue, Blixen returned to Denmark in 1931. It was during this time that she penned Out of Africa, a moving farewell to her cherished home.
The book beautifully recounts her close friendships with local people, her deep affection for the natural surroundings and wildlife, and her passionate relationship with the adventurer Denys Finch-Hatton.
