Set against the enchanting backdrop of Venice, this gripping novel blends suspense with the intricate world of art deception.

A thrilling pursuit of a master art forger amid the serene canals of Venice.

Gabriel Allon, having finally cut ties with Israeli intelligence, has found a rare sense of peace in Venice-the only place where he’s ever felt truly at home. His wife, Chiara, now manages the Tiepolo Restoration Company, while their two children attend a local scuola elementare in secret. Gabriel spends his days wandering the city’s streets and waterways, distancing himself from the shadows of his turbulent past.

However, his calm is shattered when Julian Isherwood, an eccentric London art dealer, enlists Gabriel’s help to investigate a centuries-old painting recently rediscovered and sold for a fortune. The piece, a portrait of an unknown woman attributed to Sir Anthony van Dyck, soon reveals itself as a brilliantly crafted forgery.

Determined to expose the artist behind this deception and unravel a multibillion-dollar fraud at the heart of the art world, Gabriel devises one of the most intricate ruses of his career. To succeed, he must become the very embodiment of the man he hunts: the greatest art forger the world has ever seen.
