Much like George Orwell, Kafka’s name evokes a sense of nightmare, but his stories leave the exact horror ambiguous. In The Trial, the rules are concealed even from the highest officials, and any help comes from surprising places. This chilling yet darkly amusing narrative maintains an unrelenting feeling of disorientation throughout, portraying bureaucracy on the surface but ultimately revealing the absurdity embedded in everyday human nature.

The Castle is even more mysterious. It could be seen as an allegory for a fading quasi-feudal system, a metaphor for a Central European Jew’s search for acceptance within a dominant culture, a spiritual journey toward grace or salvation, or a personal conflict between independence and the desire for approval.
