Beskrivelse
This guide covers the entire 643 km Pilegrimsleden pilgrimage from Oslo to Trondheim. It’s designed mainly for those embarking on the full journey, whether solo or with a small group.
A comprehensive companion for walking the historic pilgrimage route from Oslo to Nidaros Cathedral.
The book opens with an introduction that explores the pilgrimage’s history and background, along with practical information on topography, language, preparation, and equipment. It also includes advice on travel logistics, details about pilgrim centres, accommodation options, public holidays, waymarking, maps, and explanations of abbreviations used throughout the guide.
The route description is divided into four key sections: the Eastern Route along Lake Mjøsa, the Western Route, Lillehammer to Hjerkinn, and Hjerkinn to Nidaros Cathedral. Each section offers detailed, step-by-step walking instructions. For every stop, you’ll find the distance from the previous location, elevation, population (when known), available facilities, and insights into local history and points of interest. Updated maps, mostly at a scale of 1:100,000, help illustrate the journey.
Additional appendixes include brief overviews of other routes within the Nidaros pilgrim network, recommended further reading and useful websites, a glossary of Norwegian terms related to geography, place names, and practical topics like food and lodging, as well as indexes for maps and place names.
