Beskrivelse

A gripping nonfiction thriller, The Premonition: A Pandemic Story follows a group of medical experts who confront the official mishandling of the COVID-19 outbreak. Michael Lewis brings to life the untold story of those who foresaw the crisis and fought against ignorance.

A compelling account of pandemic preparedness and the struggle against misinformation.

In this captivating book, Lewis introduces a cast of unexpected heroes working behind the scenes during the early days of COVID-19. Among them is a thirteen-year-old whose science project on airborne disease transmission evolves into a sophisticated model for controlling outbreaks.

A local public health official offers a ground-level perspective, uncovering critical insights that the CDC overlooked and shedding light on broader truths about American society. Meanwhile, a covert group of doctors known as the Wolverines bring together exceptional expertise, top-tier laboratories, and prior experience with bird flu and swine flu threats.

Despite having all the tools needed to combat the pandemic, the Wolverines face the frustrating obstacle of lacking official approval to act. Lewis praises these individuals as heroes for their courage in defying misguided directives rooted in flawed science and misinformation.

The narrative also highlights the risks posed by the internet, which, while vital for sharing information, leaves them vulnerable to surveillance. The story unfolds as a tense race against time, with the urgent deadline looming now-or even yesterday.
