The Scent of Earth after Rain is a deeply personal project by Mohammad Jaafer, capturing his memories and photographs of Sudan. It reflects his experience of displacement and the struggle to hold onto his past.

This work is Mohammad Jaafer’s effort to piece together his personal history and create a private archive of what remains from his photographs and memories of Sudan.
It emerges from the harsh reality of being uprooted by war, where he faces the dual loss of his homeland and his recollections.
The project also follows the devastating loss of his belongings-including all his hard drives, equipment, and years of photographic records-after arriving in Denmark in 2023, just before the war in Sudan erupted.
