The Scent of Earth after Rain is a deeply personal project by Mohammad Jaafer, capturing his memories and photographs tied to Sudan. It reflects his journey through loss and displacement caused by conflict.

This work is Mohammad Jaafer’s effort to piece together his personal history and create a private archive from what remains of his photographs and memories of Sudan.
It stems from the brutal experience of being uprooted by war, where he faced the painful reality of losing both his homeland and his recollections.
The project also follows the devastating loss of his belongings-including all his hard drives, equipment, and years of photographic records-when he arrived in Denmark in 2023, just before the war erupted in Sudan.
