The Seabirds Of Greenland

Beskrivelse

Discover the fascinating world of seabirds along Greenland's shores, from bustling gulls in harbours to remote colonies of little auks. This book offers a comprehensive look at these birds and their deep connection to Greenlandic life.

An in-depth exploration of Greenland's seabirds, their biology, and their role in Arctic life.

Seabirds are a common sight all around Greenland’s coastline, inhabiting everything from busy harbours to towering nesting cliffs and vast little auk colonies that few have ventured to see. For centuries, these birds have played a crucial role in the survival of Greenland's people, providing essential resources in a harsh environment.

This book presents the first thorough overview of Greenland’s seabird biology, drawing on the latest scientific research. It covers which seabird species live in Greenland, how they have adapted to the Arctic and the open ocean, and the historical ways people have utilized them.

Included are detailed profiles of the key seabird species and personal accounts from some of the remote breeding sites. The content is crafted by researchers from the Greenland Institute of Natural Resources and Aarhus University, who have led much of the seabird research in the region.

Edited by Morten Frederiksen, a professor at Aarhus University and a globally respected seabird ecologist, the book features stunning photography by award-winning seabird researcher Carsten Egevang.

The project is supported by the Aage V. Jensen Fonde, with proceeds benefiting the Greenlandic environmental NGO Oceans North Kalaallit Nunaat.
