Andreas Halskov’s Beyond Television offers a comprehensive study of the modern mediascape and the evolution of television production. By analyzing notable TV shows and gathering perspectives from more than 100 creators, including David Chase, David Simon, Mary Harron, Nic Pizzolatto, Beau Willimon, Tricia Brock, Jesse Armstrong, Jay Duplass, Joel Fields, Tom Fontana, Angela Kang, Peter Gould, Derek Cianfrance, Tom Perrotta, Sabrina Sutherland, and Sam Levinson, the book provides a unique insider’s view of the industry.

Professor Kim Akass praises the book as a “tour de force” on American television, highlighting Halskov’s deep knowledge and scholarly approach. She notes the author’s passionate engagement with TV production, distribution, and its influence on European television, making the book an engaging and informative read for both scholars and general readers interested in the history of today’s dominant entertainment medium.

Andreas Halskov, born in 1981, holds an MA in Film Studies from Copenhagen University. He is a media studies lecturer and works as a film and TV expert across various media platforms. Halskov also curates film historical screenings for The Danish Film Institute (DFI) and serves as an editor for the scholarly film journal 16:9.

His extensive publications include numerous articles and books, as well as co-writing and editing three anthologies on modern American TV drama (Fjernsyn for viderekomne, 2011), film and TV comedy (Helt til grin, 2017), and television in the streaming era (Streaming for viderekomne, 2020). Halskov has contributed to international anthologies such as Global TV Horror and authored the English-language book TV Peaks: Twin Peaks and Modern Television Drama (2015). He has also collaborated on a documentary project with HBO Nordic and hosted industry seminars and talks, including sessions at Aarhus Series Festival.
