Beskrivelse
During World War II, around 300 Allied aircraft went down over Denmark. While some crew members survived and found safety, many others faced grim fates.
An insightful look into the stories behind the Svinø Memorial Grove and the Allied airmen buried in Denmark.
About 100 crew members managed to escape and were rescued in Sweden. Meanwhile, roughly 300 others survived but were captured by German forces and sent to prisoner of war camps.
Tragically, it is believed that around 500 airmen lost their lives in the surrounding ocean and were never recovered. In total, 1,160 fallen Allied airmen were laid to rest in Denmark.
During the war, 108 of these airmen were buried at Svino Cemetery. This compact book shares the history of the Svinø Memorial Grove and highlights some of the personal stories connected to this solemn site.
