Catch-22

Beskrivelse

Catch-22 is a classic American novel known for its sharp humor and enduring popularity. It follows Yossarian, a US Air Force bombardier, caught in a maddening military paradox during World War II.

A satirical exploration of the absurdities of war and bureaucracy through the eyes of Yossarian.

This iconic book has become a cornerstone of American literature, earning recognition from Time magazine, the Modern Library, and the Observer as one of the greatest English novels ever written. With over 10 million copies sold and translations into 21 languages, its influence is undeniable.

The story centers on Yossarian, who is desperate and outraged as unknown enemies try to kill him. Yet, his biggest challenge isn't the enemy-it’s his own military command, which keeps upping the number of missions required to finish his service. Trying to dodge these dangerous flights lands him in a baffling dilemma known as Catch-22:

• If Yossarian chooses to fly the missions, he's considered insane and can be excused.
• But if he refuses to fly, he must be sane and therefore has to go on the missions.

That’s the catch that traps him in a no-win situation, making this novel a timeless satire on the madness of war and the contradictions of military logic.
