Check & Mate

Beskrivelse

Check & Mate is a charming and clever romance from Ali Hazelwood, where two rival chess players face off in more than just a game. Mallory Greenleaf, who once walked away from chess after a painful family fallout, finds herself back in the spotlight after an unexpected victory against the world champion.

A heartfelt story about second chances, fierce competition, and unexpected connections on and off the chessboard.

Mallory Greenleaf left chess behind after it tore her family apart, focusing instead on supporting her mom and sisters while working a dead-end job. But when she reluctantly agrees to join one last charity tournament, she surprises everyone-including herself-by defeating Nolan Sawyer, the reigning world champion and infamous 'Kingkiller.'

Nolan’s stunning loss to a newcomer shakes up the chess world, and his insistence on a rematch sparks curiosity. What’s his real game? The sensible choice for Mallory might be to walk away, but the prize money and Nolan’s magnetic presence pull her back in.

As Mallory climbs the ranks, she wrestles with keeping her family safe from the game that once destroyed them. Meanwhile, her passion for chess reignites, and she soon discovers that the challenges extend beyond the board. The spotlight is intense, the rivalry electrifying, and the chemistry between her and Nolan is as sharp as their moves.
