This book gathers selected essays originally presented at the Creating the Medieval Saga symposium held in Bergen in 2005. Each essay has been updated after engaging dialogues with respondents and audience members, as well as through ongoing collaboration with the editors and the Viking Collection’s general editors.
The symposium centered on how editorial practices transformed intricate manuscript sources-ranging from the thirteenth to the nineteenth century-into the seemingly straightforward narratives known as the medieval Icelandic sagas.
