Frederik's Choices

Beskrivelse

Frederik’s story follows a boy who chooses silence, leading him down a path of isolation and heartbreak. From childhood to young adulthood, his struggle with social anxiety and depression shapes his life and ultimately his tragic decision.

An intimate look at how silence and mental health challenges impact one boy and his family.

At just 12 years old, Frederik decides he will only speak when spoken to. This choice gradually cuts him off from normal social interactions. As he grows older, he realizes that his silence and the resulting social difficulties threaten his dreams of friendship, love, education, and a fulfilling life.

Despite his efforts to overcome loneliness, social anxiety, and depression, Frederik’s battle proves too tough. By the age of 22, he tragically takes his own life.

This powerful story explores how Frederik’s critical decisions-to remain silent and to end his life-deeply affect not only him but also those around him, especially his parents, who face unimaginable choices themselves.

Presented through the perspectives of both son and father, the book reveals how bullying and a stressful family environment transformed a once-ordinary boy into a young man struggling with profound mental health issues.

Frederik shares his own words about why he made these choices, his fight against mental illness, his attempts to succeed, and the loss of hope for a better future.

The aftermath is narrated by his father, who opens up about a family gripped by grief and guilt, and wrestles with the painful question of whether it is ever right to end one’s life when it causes immense pain to others.
