Noraly Schoenmaker was a geologist in her thirties living in the Netherlands when she discovered her partner’s long-term affair. Left without a home, she quit her job and flew to India, hoping for a fresh start. But instead of finding solace in a new place, she fell head over heels for a motorcycle.

Riding gave her a sense of freedom and vitality-she could navigate narrow trails and conquer vast distances alike. Her first journey took her through the jungles of Myanmar and Thailand, all the way to Malaysia. But this taste of the open road only fueled her desire for more.

She then shipped her bike to Oman, at the Arabian Peninsula’s base, and embarked on an epic trip through Iran, along Turkmenistan’s border with Afghanistan, over Central Asia’s snowy mountains, and finally back home to the Netherlands.

Throughout this incredible adventure, Noraly ventured into remote, unfamiliar places, faced mechanical breakdowns on steep mountain roads, and rode countless miles far from civilization. Along the way, she discovered the world’s kindness, the beauty of vast open spaces, and her own inner strength.
