Beskrivelse
Knytlinga Saga chronicles the reigns of Danish kings from the 10th to the late 12th century. It opens with Harald Bluetooth's rise to power and closes celebrating the rule of Knut Valdimarsson.
A detailed medieval account of Denmark's royal lineage and their battles, focusing on key figures like Harald Bluetooth and Saint Knut.
This saga begins abruptly with Harald Bluetooth ascending the throne around 940, engaging in conflicts against the Saxons, Swedes, Wends, and Norwegians. Notably, he earned the unique honor of being the first Danish king buried in consecrated ground. The narrative continues through eighteen rulers and numerous battles, culminating in praise for Harald’s descendant Knut Valdimarsson, who ruled Denmark from 1182 to 1202.
At the heart of the saga is King Knut (or Knud), who was assassinated in Odense in 1086 and later canonized as a saint. This edition marks the first English translation of the Icelandic saga detailing Knut’s life, his ancestors, and successors, released on the 900th anniversary of Saint Knut’s death.
