Quichotte

Beskrivelse

Salman Rushdie’s Quichotte is a modern retelling inspired by Cervantes' classic, following a quirky salesman’s wild journey across America in pursuit of love. This inventive novel blends reality and fiction in a gripping, heartfelt adventure.

A contemporary spin on the timeless quest for love and meaning.

Shortlisted for the Booker Prize in 2019, Quichotte is a dazzling masterpiece from internationally acclaimed author Salman Rushdie. The story follows Sam DuChamp, a mediocre spy thriller writer, who invents Quichotte, a courtly yet eccentric salesman obsessed with television.

Quichotte falls hopelessly in love with a TV star named Salman R., and alongside his imaginary son Sancho, embarks on a picaresque journey across America. His mission is to prove himself worthy of her love, braving the tragicomic challenges of a world where “Anything-Can-Happen.”

Meanwhile, DuChamp faces his own midlife crisis, with personal struggles mirroring those of his creation. Just as Cervantes used Don Quixote to critique his society, Rushdie offers a sharp, entertaining exploration of a nation teetering on moral and spiritual decline.

The lives of DuChamp and Quichotte intertwine in a deeply human story about the pursuit of love, delivering a captivating portrait of an era where the lines between reality and fiction blur.
