Beskrivelse
Raphael (1483-1520) stands as a key figure of the Italian High Renaissance, alongside Michelangelo and Leonardo. In his brief life, he created around one hundred paintings and numerous frescoes, covering a wide range of subjects from mythological scenes to portraits and religious themes.
An unparalleled master of Renaissance art known for his diverse and visionary works.
Throughout his career, Raphael produced a remarkable variety of artworks, including altarpieces and tapestry designs for the Sistine Chapel. His fresco cycles-nine in total-explore everything from sensual female figures and ancient myths to portraits of wealthy Romans and church leaders, as well as historical and biblical narratives. Among his most famous works is the Sistine Madonna, one of the most widely reproduced religious paintings ever created.
Driven by an insatiable curiosity and refusal to settle for repetition, Raphael constantly pushed the boundaries of his creativity. His art transformed the theme of divine grace into vivid visual expression. It was his mature period in Rome, especially the frescoes in the Vatican Palace, that cemented his legacy in art history.
Celebrated during his lifetime as the most innovative artist of his era, Raphael’s exceptional skill and vision paved the way for the emergence of Mannerism and the Baroque period that followed.
