Beskrivelse
Edward Sheriff Curtis devoted 30 years to documenting the lives of North American Indians at the dawn of the 20th century. His work captures the fading traditions of these communities through both striking photographs and detailed writings.
A comprehensive visual and textual record of Native American tribes from the early 1900s.
Curtis embarked on an ambitious project, blending artistic vision with scientific dedication to preserve the traditional ways of life that were rapidly disappearing. Over three decades, he traveled extensively, visiting 80 tribes from the Mexican border all the way to the Bering Strait.
His respectful and patient approach helped him earn the trust of Native peoples, allowing him to document their cultures with sensitivity. Between 1907 and 1930, his monumental work was published in 20 volumes under the title The North American Indian.
With only 272 original sets produced, these volumes became incredibly rare. This edition brings together Curtis’s entire portfolio into a single collection, making his remarkable achievement more accessible.
It stands as both a valuable historical record and a masterful example of photographic art.
