Shadow Ticket

Beskrivelse

Set during the height of the Great Depression, this novel follows Hicks McTaggart, a former strikebreaker turned private investigator, as he embarks on a seemingly straightforward case that spirals into an international adventure. From Milwaukee to Hungary, Hicks encounters a web of intrigue involving spies, musicians, and more.

A gripping tale of mystery and espionage against the backdrop of 1930s turmoil and the dawn of the Big Band Era.

Milwaukee, 1932: the Great Depression rages on, Prohibition is about to be repealed, and Al Capone sits behind bars. In this shifting landscape, Hicks McTaggart, once a strikebreaker and now a private eye, believes he’s found steady work. His assignment? Track down the heiress to a Wisconsin cheese fortune who has taken off on a whim.

What starts as a routine job quickly turns extraordinary. Hicks is unexpectedly forced aboard a transatlantic liner, leading him far from home to Hungary-a place with no coastline, a baffling language, and enough pastries to keep any cop content for years. Yet, the heiress remains elusive.

As Hicks finally closes in on her, he becomes entangled in a complex world filled with Nazis, Soviet spies, British counterintelligence, swing bands, paranormal enthusiasts, and outlaw bikers. None of these challenges are in his job description or skill set, but history’s turbulent currents drag him deeper.

Amidst the chaos, the bright spot for Hicks is the rise of the Big Band Era, and his surprising talent for dancing. Whether his moves will help him navigate the dangerous path back to Milwaukee-and a world that may have changed beyond recognition-is the ultimate question.
