Annette Frölich, the author, is a trained physician and specialist in gynecology and obstetrics with surgical experience. In 1995, she began studying prehistoric archaeology at the University of Copenhagen, earning her mag. art. degree in 2003 with a thesis titled "Field Surgery in the Iron Age." Since then, she has focused on identifying medical instruments from the first millennium excavated in Southern Scandinavia.
