Walter Chandoha, who found himself equally enchanted by cats and dogs, dedicated more than 70 years to photographing these fascinating animals. While working on his acclaimed book about cats, he carefully selected his top dog photos, preserving hundreds of contact sheets, prints, and color transparencies for a future project.
Though Chandoha passed away in 2019 at the age of 98, his remarkable legacy continues with this striking follow-up dedicated entirely to dogs. Photography critic Jean Dykstra highlights that the appeal of Chandoha’s dog portraits lies not only in the natural charm of the animals but also in the photographer’s masterful skill.
