Beskrivelse
Armenia and Azerbaijan are two neighbouring countries with a complicated relationship, yet both offer beautiful places to explore. Mapping them is tricky because of their intertwined territories and political history.
This map combines Armenia and Azerbaijan into one detailed guide, reflecting their complex geography and shared history.
It's a shame that these adjacent nations have such strained relations, especially since both are wonderful destinations. Their political separation has resulted in enclaves of each country within the other, making it impossible to map one without including the other. Roads often cross through each other's territories, and the map reflects this reality rather than ignoring it.
Within the region, Armenians mainly live in the western third and parts of the center, while Azeris occupy most of the remaining areas. There are also enclaves inhabited by Avars, Lezgins, Cachuri, and Talys. Another challenge is that both countries claim certain roads-once vital transport routes-are still national highways, despite many being cut off during the formation of these states. Determining which roads are open, closed, or rerouted is complex, but this map aims to present the most accurate and practical information available.
In addition to roads, the map highlights points of interest, museums, notable churches, historic sites, and airports. Detailed inset maps of Yerevan, Armenia’s capital, and Baku, Azerbaijan’s capital, are also included for easier navigation.
