The Western Balkans, formerly known as Yugoslavia, includes Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, Kosovo, Northern Macedonia, and parts of Albania, Hungary, and Bulgaria. While Slovenia and Croatia have already joined the EU, the rest are keen to follow, making the region increasingly attractive and easy to reach from Italy or Austria.

This area splits into two distinct parts: one bordering the Adriatic Sea, featuring numerous ferry routes to Italy, a coastal motorway heading toward Greece, and vibrant cities such as Ljubljana, Zagreb, Split, and Dubrovnik. The other side covers the mountainous interior, stretching roughly from Lake Balaton down to the Greek border near Thessaloniki, with bustling cities like Belgrade, Sarajevo, Pristina, Podgorica, Tirana, and Skopje offering an exotic and thrilling travel experience.

Adding to its appeal, the region is home to several new national parks, preparing to welcome more visitors and making the Western Balkans a dynamic and evolving destination in Europe.
