Beskrivelse

Kazakhstan emerged as an independent nation after the Soviet Union's dramatic collapse around 1989/90. It’s a vast country sharing a lengthy border with Russia, maintaining relatively peaceful relations despite Russia’s unpredictable leadership.

An expansive nation balancing diplomacy and rich geography from the Caspian Sea to the Silk Road.

Kazakhstan is one of the many countries that gained independence following the Soviet empire's spectacular fall in 1989/90. This enormous nation borders Russia extensively, and while their relationship appears fairly friendly, Kazakhstan carefully navigates its foreign policy to avoid provoking the unpredictable Russian leadership.

The country itself is welcoming and definitely worth exploring. The first side of the map highlights western Kazakhstan, stretching from the Caspian Sea to Zhezqazghan, and includes the remaining parts of the Aral Sea, which it shares with Uzbekistan. It also features a detailed inset map of Almaty, the country’s former capital.

The second side covers eastern Kazakhstan, including Almaty, which holds a strategic spot on the ancient Silk Road connecting China and Europe. It’s also near Bishkek, once a trading fortress now located in Uzbekistan. The current border with China lies just a short distance from Almaty.

This country is best experienced on a group tour-though that might just be my personal preference! Also, a quick note: this edition is the third for Kazakhstan, not the fourth as the map suggests.
