Backed by Arts & Architecture magazine, it aimed to address the postwar housing surge by developing prototype modern homes that were both affordable and easy to replicate for everyday Americans.

Focusing mainly on the Los Angeles region, the program featured 36 model homes crafted by some of the era’s most influential architects, including Richard Neutra, Raphael Soriano, Craig Ellwood, Charles and Ray Eames, Pierre Koenig, Eero Saarinen, A. Quincy Jones, and Ralph Rapson. Their mission was to incorporate as many wartime techniques and materials as possible, reflecting modern life through innovative design.

The program’s outcomes not only redefined what a modern home could be but also left a lasting influence across the United States and worldwide.
