The Little Mermaid

Beskrivelse

Discover the timeless tale of The Little Mermaid, a story that delves deep into themes of love, identity, and sacrifice. Follow the brave little mermaid as she embarks on a journey filled with desire and the quest for a new life beyond the sea.

An enduring story of courage, love, and the search for belonging beneath the waves.

Andersen’s classic narrative explores profound and universal themes such as unrequited love, the nature of identity, and ideas of an afterlife or reincarnation. The little mermaid’s adventurous spirit shines through as she faces the challenges and sacrifices that come with love and transformation.

The story reflects the social and moral values of its time, which may feel outdated today, yet its emotional power and relevance remain strong. Anton Lomaev’s striking illustrations bring Andersen’s vivid descriptions of the underwater world to life with a dreamlike quality that captures readers’ imaginations.

His artwork beautifully portrays the little mermaid’s dangerous path and inner conflicts as she confronts the consequences of her choices and navigates the human world, evoking a mix of fear and hope.

This edition is the first in the “Illustrated Classics” series, featuring the talents of Anton Lomaev, who has been nominated for the prestigious 2026 Hans Christian Andersen Award. This biennial award, given by the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY), is the highest international honour for children’s literature creators, recognising those whose work has had a lasting global impact.
