While Tove Ditlevsen has gained international fame as a remarkable prose writer, she has long been celebrated in Denmark as a gifted poet. Starting in her early twenties, she published poetry consistently throughout her life.

This new collection invites English readers to experience her striking and often surprising verse. Throughout the poems, you’ll find playful yet mournful reflections where young girls linger within grown women, literary achievements and moments of inertia are candidly shared, and lovers drift in and out like changing seasons.

Beautifully translated by Jennifer Russell and Sophia Hersi Smith, and featuring an introduction by Olga Ravn, There Lives a Young Girl in Me Who Will Not Die firmly establishes Ditlevsen as one of the most inventive writers of the twentieth century.
