Beskrivelse
Discover the powerful world of valkyries-mystical women who decide the fate of warriors on the battlefield. This book explores their role in Viking mythology and the lives of real Viking women beyond the legends.
Unveiling the strength and influence of Viking women through myth and history.
Valkyries are depicted as supernatural female figures who determine who survives or dies in battle. They protect some warriors while directing deadly weapons toward others. Viking myths try to give meaning to the harsh realities of war-transforming the pain, loss, and devastation into something noble and destined.
These stories portray death not as pointless but as a fate chosen by divine forces, making it a mark of honour and fortune. The women in these tales are deeply involved in their communities' power struggles and upheavals, impacting events for better or worse.
Drawing on the latest archaeological and historical research, this book introduces readers to dramatic medieval Icelandic texts. It reveals a society that imagined women in a variety of powerful roles-not only influencing the mortal world but also controlling forces beyond it.
By separating fact from myth, Valkyrie sheds light on the vibrant and varied lives of Viking women, offering a fresh perspective on their true impact and legacy.
