Beskrivelse

Violeta’s life spans a century marked by upheaval, love, and resilience. Born during a storm in 1920, she navigates a world shaped by historic events and personal trials.

An epic tale of a woman’s journey through a century of change and challenge.

Violeta arrives in the world amidst a stormy day in 1920, the only daughter among five lively brothers. Her early years are shadowed by the aftermath of the Great War and the arrival of the Spanish flu in her South American homeland just as she is born. Thanks to her father’s foresight, her family survives the pandemic unscathed, only to face new hardships when the Great Depression disrupts their comfortable city life.

Forced to leave behind their familiar surroundings, the family moves to a remote, wild, and beautiful part of the country. It is there that Violeta grows up and experiences her first romance. Through a heartfelt letter to someone she cherishes deeply, she shares a life filled with passionate love, heartbreaking loss, moments of poverty and prosperity, and the impact of major historical events.

Her story unfolds against the backdrop of the fight for women’s rights, the rise and fall of dictators, and two pandemics. Isabel Allende captures Violeta’s fierce spirit, determination, and humor, weaving an unforgettable and deeply moving saga of a woman who endures and thrives through a lifetime of extraordinary change.
