Beskrivelse
Winter's Tales is a collection of 11 stories that revolve around the theme of longing. These tales were penned by Isak Dinesen, the pen name of Karen Blixen, drawing on her childhood memories in Denmark during a turbulent historical period.
A poignant collection reflecting themes of yearning inspired by Danish childhood and the shadows of wartime.
Written after Karen Blixen’s return from Kenya and during the difficult times of the Nazi occupation, these stories capture a deep sense of desire and nostalgia. The settings and themes are closely tied to Blixen’s early years in Denmark, offering a vivid glimpse into her past.
Born in Rungsted, Denmark in 1885, Karen Blixen studied art in Copenhagen, Paris, and Rome. In 1914, she married her cousin, Baron Bror Blixen-Finecke, and together they moved to Kenya to run a coffee plantation. Following their divorce in 1921, she managed the plantation on her own until the coffee market crash in 1931 forced her to return to Denmark.
This volume is originally titled 'Vintereventyr' in Danish, encapsulating the atmospheric and emotional depth of the stories within.
