The Yukon Territory, born from the vast expanse once known as British North America, gained fame following the 1898 gold discovery on the Klondike River. It later played a vital role during World War II when the highway to Alaska was carved through challenging landscapes. Today, tourism drives the local economy, with thousands of visitors traveling north in recreational vehicles.

Access to Yukon is possible by air or via two main road routes from British Columbia and four from Alaska. Most highways are paved, except for the adventurous Dempster Highway, which extends far north beyond Inuvik in the Northwest Territories, reaching the Arctic Ocean-the only land route to the ocean.
