Discover the rugged beauty of Yukon and Northern British Columbia, two iconic regions rich in history and adventure. From gold rush tales to scenic highways, this area offers a unique travel experience in North America.
Explore the historic and scenic routes of Yukon and Northern British Columbia, including key towns and access points.
The Yukon Territory, born from the vast expanse once known as British North America, gained fame following the 1898 gold discovery on the Klondike River. It later played a vital role during World War II when the highway to Alaska was carved through challenging landscapes. Today, tourism drives the local economy, with thousands of visitors traveling north in recreational vehicles.
Access to Yukon is possible by air or via two main road routes from British Columbia and four from Alaska. Most highways are paved, except for the adventurous Dempster Highway, which extends far north beyond Inuvik in the Northwest Territories, reaching the Arctic Ocean-the only land route to the ocean.
This guide includes detailed inset maps of Whitehorse (the capital), Dawson City (a historic gold rush town), and Watson Lake (the primary entry point). The reverse side highlights northern British Columbia and the Alaskan Panhandle, covering areas from Fort Nelson north into Yukon, from Skagway and Haines northward, and from Watson Lake south along the scenic Stewart Highway.
Additionally, routes used by ferries and cruise ships weaving through the coastal islands are clearly marked, offering a comprehensive overview of travel options in this spectacular northern region.
