Beskrivelse
Discover the fascinating journey of how great artworks come to life, from the first spark of an idea to the final masterpiece. This book offers a deep dive into the creative process behind some of history’s most celebrated artists.
Exploring the artistic process through the eyes of renowned masters
This book accompanies a major winter exhibition at SMK, showcasing the works and techniques of iconic artists such as Rembrandt, Edgar Degas, Nicolai Abildgaard, Bertel Thorvaldsen, Christen Købke, and P. S. Krøyer, among others.
It provides a rare glimpse into the methods these artists used, tracing their creative paths from initial concepts to completed works. Featuring an exceptional selection of masterpieces alongside seldom-seen sketches and studies, the book reveals how and why these artworks took their final forms.
With over 150 drawings, prints, and paintings spanning from the 15th to the 20th century, readers can explore the connections between preliminary sketches and finished pieces, witnessing the evolution of artistic creativity across different eras.
The insights in this book are drawn from the lifelong research of Chris Fischer, senior researcher and head of SMK’s Centre for Advanced Studies in Master Drawings. Fischer is a globally recognized expert in master drawings and has curated exhibitions at prestigious venues like the Louvre and the Uffizi.
He is especially noted for his work on the Italian Renaissance artist Fra Bartolommeo, who stands alongside Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, and Michelangelo as one of the foremost figures of the High Renaissance.
